Outstanding Reference Work on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade

In writing CONFLICTING LOYALTIES I relied heavily upon the authoritative work, THE SLAVE TRADE: THE STORY of the ATLANTIC SLAVE TRADE 1440-1870, by Lord Hugh Thomas of Cambridge University.  Thomas explains in great detail the American dominance of the trade on the eve of the Civil War, the full participation in the trade by African kings and chiefs, and the long battle by the British to force an end to the trade upon both the Atlantic community and Africa. He pulls no punches. If you want to understand this major influence upon modern life around the Atlantic, it is a must read.
